Rotarians At Work Day at New Vista Ranch

How do you measure the success of a Rotarians At Work Day project?  By how many club members participated? By the value of the project to the recipient of our efforts? By the positive experience of all the participants? By the good fellowship we shared?

Twenty of our thirty club members participated, bringing family and friends along to help.  Another 23 of the Palo Verde Interactors joined in.  We painted walls in three of the residences, bright garden boxes out in their garden, and the entire pool fencing, plus we cleared debris from the grounds.

And we ended with a positively sumptuous barbeque, courtesy of Joe G., with some brisket-y help from Dennis F.  Everyone – New Vista residents and staff, Rotarians, Interactors, family and friend – had a good time.

Whatever criteria you use, our RAWD project out at New Vista Ranch was a knock-out success.

You can see us at work – and the final product – on the Summerlin Rotary Facebook page.

There were almost enough Summerlin Rotarians at last night's production of Wicked at The Smith Center to qualify the show as a make-up meeting!  But - to be totally truthful - I don't think any of us were wearing our pins...and that was wicked.  Speaking of qualifying, I wonder if Elphaba would qualify for the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians described in today's Quick Notes.

18th Annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade

Rotary Summerlin escorts Mr Potato Head
Join us on July 4 from 7:30AM to 11AM to volunteer as a balloon wrangler in the 18th Annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade. Good fun and fellowship. Family and friends welcome. Kids need to be big enough to hold a balloon tether and not get carried off over the rainbow - 'nuff said.

Making Up Ain't Hard to Do

Judith, Pres Fergus Gillies, Dennis
One of the nice things about Rotary is that you have friends everywhere in the world. Wherever you go, you are welcome at the local Rotary Club meeting.

On our trip to Edinburgh, we took advantage of making up a missed meeting at the Rotary Club of Edinburgh, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary. They meet for lunch at the King James Thistle Hotel.

It never ceases to amaze me how much we Rotarians are alike. We enjoyed a friendly welcome and great program. The food was..., we'll Rotarian food :). And the Scots almost speak English, which made it fairly easy to understand the speaker, and more importantly, the bad jokes. Good fun, good food, and good fellowship. They even understood my wry sense of humor and invited me to join their club. Hmmmm?
