Project 150-Helping Homeless Teens Stay in School
Members and guests at today's meeting were moved to tears after hearing Harmony Homes CEO Don Purdue describe the plight of hundreds of homeless teens in Clark County high schools. Because Purdue was also moved to tears after first learning about the magnitude of the problem several months ago, he and a grassroots team of volunteers and school staff have formed the 501C3 organization Project 150 to help provide the resources these homeless students need to stay in school and graduate. Items most needed include school supplies, food items such as juices, instant soups, instant oatmeal and other non-perishables as well as clothing and food gift cards. Thanks to Don for an absolutely fabulous program. And thanks to the many members who brought guests to today's meeting. You can find out more about Project 150 at http://www.project150lv.org/.

Below are my thoughts after our meeting of today. This was sent to the current add incoming club boards. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteWere you at Rotary meeting this morning? What did you see? What did you hear?
From my seat it was OPPORTUNITY and it was KNOCKING very hard and loud.
Is this an opportunity for our club to help the 150's, our community and get a project going our club can support in more ways than with just dollars, not that $$$ are bad? They can use both, our hands and our funds. What is the next step for us to take this further?
Should the 150s be invited to submit request to CLUB to FOUNDATION? Maybe through them we can do more with Ciminron?
As you can tell from my inability to speak today, sometime passion gets in our way, but only for a brief moment. I still hear the knocking and it is still an opportunity.
What does our club want to do?
